About Section Background

Hello, I'm Angela Crystal.

I write because language holds the power to awaken hearts and alter perspectives. Stories are our most human inheritance. Even our dreams are woven in narrative. Words archive our past, illuminate our present, and whisper visions of who we might yet become.

About the Author

Angela Crystal

Angela Crystal writes contemporary and literary fiction that focuses primarily on nontraditional family bonds, under-represented voices, and the search for human connection.

A former foster mother and adoptive mama with a nomadic soul and a love for wild hearts and wilder places, she writes from wherever home happens to be at the moment - usually somewhere near water.

When she’s not writing, she can generally be found cuddled up with two little men, the love of her life, and/or a good book.

Submit a Prompt

Inspiration often comes when you least expect it. For me it's usually just as I’m trying to go to sleep or first thing when I wake up. When I’m stuck though, writing prompts are a fun way to spark ideas and push storytelling in new directions.

Do you have an idea you’d love to see brought to life? Whether it’s a story concept, an interesting character, or a twist you’ve always wanted to read, I’d love to hear it. Who knows—your prompt might just inspire my next book.

If I choose to use your prompt, I’ll be sure to give you a shout-out (unless you’d prefer to stay anonymous). Use the form below to submit your writing prompt and let’s create something magical together!

Need some inspiration? Here are a few examples of writing prompts:

A widowed woman receives a love note every week from her deceased husband, but one day the notes start mentioning things that have happened since his death.

After years of thinking he was an only child orphaned in adolescence, a man in his 80s finds a sister he never knew existed and an extended family he can finally call his own.

A second-generation immigrant is asked to translate her great aunt’s old letters—and begins to uncover a version of their family history that no one else wants told.

A trans man returns to the rural Oklahoma town he grew up in to care for the grandmother who raised him.

What I'm Reading

James

James

by Percival Everett

When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.
